Rep. Schneider Invites Students to Participate in 2018 Congressional Art Competition

March 2, 2018
Press Release
Submissions by area high school students due by April 13, 2018

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider announced the start of the Tenth District’s 2018 Congressional Art Competition.

Area high school students are encouraged to submit outstanding pieces of art they have created in the past year, which will be judged by a panel of local educators and artists. The theme for this year’s contest is “Dreams”. Students may interpret the theme however they chose and submit artwork that reflects their interpretation.

The deadline to submit artwork for the competition is April 13, 2018. Please drop-off all submissions at Congressman Schneider’s office at 111 Barclay Blvd, Suite 200, Lincolnshire, IL (Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm).

“The schools in our district are full of fantastically creative students and strong visual arts programs that nurture their talent,” said Schneider. “Every year, I look forward to seeing the artwork our young people create, and am proud to help highlight the skill and imagination of local students with this contest.”

The winning submission will be exhibited in the U.S. Capitol for a year.  The second and third place pieces will be displayed in the Congressman’s District and Washington D.C. offices, respectively.

The first prize winner will also receive two round-trip airline tickets courtesy of Southwest Airlines to Washington, DC and have the opportunity to attend the Congressional Art Competition award ceremony. At that ceremony, our district’s winner will see their winning artwork hung in the Capitol, and be joined by other first prize entries from the other 434 Congressional Districts.

Schneider will host a reception to announce the winner and showcase submissions for the artists and their families at the David Adler Center in Libertyville on at April 23, 2018 from 4:30pm-6:30pm. Following the reception, the exhibit will be on display at the Adler Center for public viewing through April 28, 2018. For exhibit hours and directions, please visit www.adlercenter.org.

Additional information, including important guidelines for submissions, is available on Congressman Schneider’s website.
