VERNON HILLS, Ill. – Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) discussed COVID relief, small business assistance and gun violence prevention with constituents at his "Congress On Your Corner" in Vernon Hills on Tuesday. During his second town hall since the pandemic began, Schneider highlighted the impact of the American Rescue Plan on the Vernon Hills community. Video of Schneider's opening remarks can be downloaded here.

Constituents can find future Congress on Your Corner town hall dates at Schneider's Eventbrite page.

"Our communities have overcome so much in the last 17 months fighting this pandemic. I was grateful to hear from constituents and small business owners in Vernon Hills on Tuesday so I could hear firsthand how I can continue to deliver for them. When I get back to Washington, I will continue to build on the success of the American Rescue Plan, fight for small businesses, and keep working to end the gun violence epidemic in our country," said Schneider.

In March, Schneider helped pass The American Rescue Plan which included $3.6 million in direct assistance to Vernon Hills and $136 million total in assistance to Lake County.

Throughout the pandemic, Schneider was a leading voice in helping secure funding to support small businesses. After consulting with hundreds of small business owners in the Tenth District, Schneider urged the Small Business Administration (SBA) to expand funding for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Impact Disaster Loan (EIDL) program after they initially ran out of funding. He also urged SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza to resolve initial issues with the programs as quickly and transparently as possible.

Congressman Schneider helped pass H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Check Act, and H.R. 1446, the Enhanced Background Check Act, in the House earlier this year to expand and improve the background check process for firearm sales. He also introduced the Ghost Guns are Guns Act to prevent the sale of unassembled firearms online, which can currently be purchased without first undergoing a background check.
