Last week was a District Work Period and I had the opportunity to meet with constituents in my office and throughout the district. Everywhere I went, and in particular in conversations with students at Lake Forest College, College of Lake County and Neal Math and Science Academy in North Chicago, I was asked about two particular issues: (1) reducing gun violence to better protect our children, and (2) ensuring the integrity of the upcoming elections.

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) hosted a roundtable discussion with Cook County Clerk David Orr and Lake County Clerk Carla Wyckoff on local efforts to improve election security. Noah Praetz, Director of Elections at the Cook County Clerk's Office, and Debra Nieto, Chief Deputy County Clerk at the Lake County Clerk's Office also attended and participated in the discussion.

This Valentine's Day, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) again collected and distributed hand-made Valentines to area veterans.

Local schoolchildren, libraries, and Tenth District constituents were invited to create and deliver the cards to Schneider's Lincolnshire office.

Last week, Congress finally moved beyond the damaging reliance on short-term, stopgap spending measures that unnecessarily burden our military and federal agencies. I voted for the bipartisan budget deal because it would avert another government shutdown and, at least for now, end the self-defeating cycle of repeated temporary spending bills.
