This week I want to focus on the outrageous decision by the Department of Justice to separate children from their parents at the border, even in cases of families seeking asylum in our country. Last month, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a new "zero tolerance" border policy to criminally prosecute all individuals who illegally enter the United States.

Last week I was home for a district work period. The week started with a number of Memorial Day events in Glencoe, Grayslake, and Mundelein. It was a source of pride to see all our local communities commemorate and honor the memories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and the freedoms we all enjoy.

This week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5515, National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019, by a vote of 351-66. Five amendments offered by Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL) were included in the legislation.
