First, winter is here (at least according to the calendar, if not the thermometer). To those celebrating on Monday, I wish you a very Merry Christmas. To those who recently marked the Festival of Lights, a belated Happy Hanukkah. For all those who celebrate next week, Happy Kwanzaa. And to everyone, I wish you a Happy 2024! May the new year bring good health, peace, and surprises that are only pleasant and welcome.

Happy December. The holiday season officially kicked off last week, and I hope you and your family had a nice and plentiful Thanksgiving. Julie and I were blessed to have both sons come home for the first time in several years, which was a treat.

First and foremost, I wish everyone an early Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you can make time to spend with family and friends and find abundant reasons to give thanks. I am grateful for so many things, including my health and my family, and in particular, I am thankful for the privilege of representing Illinois’ 10th Congressional District.

Following his speech on the floor, I greeted him in the well to say congratulations and commit to seeking common ground for the good of the country.

We have now been without a Speaker, and consequently without a functioning Congress, for three weeks and counting.

I returned to Washington yesterday after observing the Yom Kippur holiday at home on Monday. Being home for the weekend, I was also able to visit the district with stops in North Chicago, Wheeling, Grayslake, and Antioch. My conversations this weekend, and throughout the month, have mostly centered on my efforts to prevent a reckless, unnecessary government shutdown at midnight, September 30.

I am back in Washington today after spending August and the first week of September working across the district. I love being home and spending quality time with neighbors and friends throughout our communities.

One of the highlights of summer is that the Cubs, despite early season predictions, are very much in the playoff hunt. Meanwhile, across the Tenth district, schools rush to complete their summer construction projects as students return with high hopes for a great year ahead. I was honored to join North Chicago Community School District 187 for their annual school year kick-off.

The summer of ’23 is a clarion call for bold, urgent action. Though it’s been mostly nice weather here in Illinois, the hottest global summer in recorded history continues to ravage the globe and particularly the United States.

Yesterday was, to say the least, a busy news day. For the third time since March, former President Donald Trump was indicted—this time on charges related to his accused role in the efforts to overturn the election on January 6, 2021.
