"This shutdown was an unnecessary, self-created crisis driven by an unwillingness to negotiate and compromise. But Congress's continued reliance on short-term fixes to fund our government is equally irresponsible, harming our military's ability to effectively plan for the long-term and sowing costly uncertainty across federal agencies.

This week, bipartisan cybersecurity legislation that passed the House of Representatives included an amendment offered by Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10).

H.R. 3776, the Cyber Diplomacy Act, introduced by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) establishes a high-level Office of Cyber Issues at the Department of State, requires the Administration develop a public international cyberspace strategy, and institutes Congressional oversight over international cyber agreements.

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced he plans to return his salary to the U.S. Treasury in the event of a federal government shutdown. Current federal funding expires at the end of the day on January 19, and the government will shut down if congressional leaders fail to reach a compromise solution to extend funding by that deadline.
