My focus remains on protecting the initial progress we’ve made on health care from ongoing, ill-conceived repeal efforts. Last Friday, I was joined by 170 of my Democratic colleagues as I introduced a resolution strongly condemning President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement and further urging the Administration to reverse course and maintain U.S. participation.

Last week, I introduced bipartisan legislation to protect the qualitative military edge (QME) of Israel over regional adversaries. The Defending Israel’s QME Act of 2017 improves our coordination by requiring the US to consult with the Israeli government before any future regional arms sales, and comes in the midst of serious concerns by Israel over a proposed arms deal with Saudi Arabia announced by President Trump which is awaiting congressional approval.

Last week, I partnered with Rep. Jan Schakowsky to host a hiring event featuring 64 local employers including CVS Health, UPS, Verizon Wireless, Walgreens, and more. In total there were more than 400 open positions ranging from entry to senior-level.

Last week, I was proud to introduce the Housing Our Heroes Act with three of my colleagues to help veterans organizations buy, renovate, and repurpose abandoned properties into housing for homeless veterans. This bipartisan bill presents a win-win commonsense solution to help both our veterans find a safe place to call home, while also supporting the revitalization of our communities by renovating previously abandoned houses.

Last week, I introduced legislation to help seniors avoid Medicare late enrollment fees and make some commonsense improvements to the way employees leaving a job learn about their health care options. Rather than a destructive health care repeal plan, these are the kind of solutions that members of both parties can work on together to move our country forward.

Last week was national Small Business Week, a time to celebrate the entrepreneurs, small business owners, and everyone that works in a small business that form the foundation of the American economy. More than half of all Americans either own or are employed by a small business.
