Today marks five weeks since Governor Pritzker issued his stay at home order, and yesterday, the Governor extended the order through the end of May. I know this situation is challenging for so many families and local businesses, but ultimately the steps we are taking are necessary to prevent the spread of the virus and protect the health of ourselves, our neighbors and our communities.

On Wednesday afternoon, in a call between House Small Business Committee members and Jovita Carranza, Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA), Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) called on the SBA to provide updated guidance to both lenders and loan applicants.
Yesterday, the US Senate unanimously passed the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act, a $480 Billion interim funding bill to support small businesses, hospitals and nationwide COVID testing. The House will vote this legislation tomorrow, and it is expected that the President will sign it soon thereafter. In advance of the House vote, I'm writing with an update on what is included in this package, and guidance for small businesses and other organizations looking to access this funding.

I know many of you who are small business owners are frantically trying to navigate through this crisis, and are frustrated by the fits and starts with the Small Business Administration (SBA) loan programs, both Emergency Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). From difficulties completing online forms, to getting through to the SBA, and now news that the funds have run out of money, these programs are not yet delivering the promised relief.
