Today, Congressman Brad Schneider invited Tenth District students to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition, which is being held this year via a new virtual format.

Area high school students are encouraged to submit outstanding pieces of art they have created in the past year, which will be judged by a panel of local educators and artists. The theme for this year's contest is the U.S. motto, "E Pluribus Unum" (meaning "Out of Many, One"). Students are encouraged to interpret the theme however they chose and submit artwork that reflects their interpretation.

I was reflecting this weekend on what a long, strange year it has been…and it's only May 18. TV and radio commentators have been jokingly ascribing any bad news to the idea that "well, it's 2020." But I am a glass half-full guy, an eternal optimist. So I would like to believe that with the majority of the year still remaining, we can adapt and overcome the challenges presented by this pandemic, and still make it a good, albeit different, year. But to do so, we must find a way to support our neighbors, our communities and our economy throughout our battle with COVID-19.

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (D-IL) applauded recent visa policy changes by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to allow foreign-born medical doctors greater flexibility to deliver health care to our communities during this pandemic.

These changes were previously requested by Schneider and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) in an April 2020 letter to Kenneth Cuccinelli, acting Principal Deputy Director at USCIS.
