Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10), released the below statement following President Trump's signing of an executive order targeting portions of the Affordable Care Act:

"President Trump couldn't pass his health care bill through Congress, so now he's taking his frustration out on the American people by undermining the Affordable Care Act through executive order.

"This is playing politics with Americans' health care. The policies announced today have the potential to collapse the individual markets and raise costs across the country.

Today, Reps. Brad Schneider (D-IL), Norma J. Torres (D-CA), and Eliot L. Engel (D-NY) introduced the Multiple Firearm Sales Reporting Modernization Act. If approved by Congress and passed into law, the bill would require a federal firearms licensee to report the sale of two or more long guns, including semi-automatic rifles such as the AR-15 and the AK-47, within a five-day period.

Today, U.S. Representative Brad Schneider (IL-10) and seven members of the Illinois congressional delegation urged the preservation of the state and local tax (SALT) deduction in any proposed federal tax reform.

In a letter to Chairman Kevin Brady of the House Committee on Ways and Means, the members of Congress write, "Imposing a federal tax on income paid to state and local governments is double taxation, plain and simple. Furthermore, eliminating this long-standing deduction would disproportionately harm taxpayers across the income spectrum in high-tax states."

Today, U.S. Representatives Brad Schneider (D-IL) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) introduced legislation to better protect America's small businesses, and their operational and customer information, from cyberattack.

H.R. 3968, the Small Business Cybersecurity Enhancement Act, creates a loan guarantee program that would allow small businesses to acquire cybersecurity technology and services.

"I extend my sincere condolences to all those who lost loved ones and send prayers for recovery to those wounded. And I'm grateful for the professionalism and bravery of law enforcement and first responders during and after this attack.

Yesterday, Representative Brad Schneider's (IL-10) amendment targeting Hizballah's domestic missile capabilities passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee and was included in H.R. 3229, the Hizballah International Financing Prevention Amendments Act of 2017.

Hizballah, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization has been able to significantly grow its weapons stockpile in recent years with backing from Iran. Reports now indicate that Iran is helping to build missile production facilities in Lebanon to enable an indigenous rocket-producing capability for Hizballah.
